Warrington Wolves Community Foundation
The Warrington Wolves Community Foundation is a registered charity (no. 1110734) that aims to engage, enthuse and inspire the local community to initiate and sustain positive lifestyle choices.
Using the vehicle of sport and physical activity allied to the profile of the professional Rugby League Club, a series of unique opportunities are available that are designed to make a lasting impact on the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of beneficiaries.
The Warrington Wolves Community Foundation deliver a series of mental fitness sessions (including Offload and Extra Time) designed to equip men with the self-care tools required when times get tough.
Offload uses Rugby League as a metaphor to normalise mental health issues, tackling stigma and reduce discrimination. Sporting language is used throughout (for example, the sessions are called ‘fixtures’, the men are a ‘squad’ and the delivery staff are ‘head coaches’), the fixtures are delivered by professional athletes, coaches and match officials with their own lived experiences.
Middle-aged men are encouraged to listen and support other squad members, share their own challenges and their coping methods.
The Warrington Wolves Community Foundation adopt the five ways to wellbeing principles to support men beyond the sessions.
The participants are encouraged to 'give back' through volunteering by buddying with new people who attend the sessions for the first time and as part of their induction, they are required to complete the ZSA training.
The reason for joining the ZSA is to embed the training across the entire organisation and advocate the benefits across the mental health partnership networks within Warrington.
