Funeral Experts
We are a free, national, independent funeral advice and bereavement support service. We work in partnership with NHS Trusts, local authorities, coroners, community and primary care services, and charities to support individuals and families at the end of life and after a bereavement. Our trained and experienced bereavement advisors provide a listening ear, practical advice and support, help with welfare benefits and funeral arrangements, all offered with compassion and clarity, at no cost to the public.
Funeral Experts is committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing of people affected by bereavement.
We understand the deep impact grief can have on mental health and suicide risk, particularly when individuals and families are left without clear support or information. That’s why we believe it’s so important that people receive practical support, welfare benefits assistance, and compassionate care as early as possible.
Understanding your options and getting the right help can ease emotional pressure, reduce financial strain, and prevent the compounding effects that grief can have when left unsupported.
Our service offers this help from the earliest point after a death, walking alongside families as they navigate what comes next.
We also work closely with professionals and have recently joined the St Helens Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Communities of Practice group to support joined-up working.
We are joining the Zero Suicide Alliance to show our strong commitment to suicide prevention and to highlight the vital connection between bereavement and mental health. Loss, especially when accompanied by uncertainty, practical pressure, or financial strain, can significantly increase the risk of mental health deterioration.
By providing early, compassionate, and practical support including help with welfare benefits and funeral arrangements, we aim to reduce the stress families face and ensure no one is left to cope alone. We believe that by raising awareness, encouraging early access to support, and working collaboratively with others in the sector, we can help reduce the longer-term impact of bereavement on mental health.
We pledge to actively support suicide prevention by providing free, compassionate bereavement support that helps reduce emotional, financial, and practical pressures on families.
We recognise that timely access to the right support, whether that is a listening ear, help with welfare benefits, or assistance with next steps, can make a real difference to someone’s mental health and overall wellbeing.
Our team is committed to signposting to specialist mental health and crisis services where needed, and we actively encourage the uptake of Zero Suicide Alliance's free suicide awareness training across our networks and partners.
