The Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) is hosted by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust and follows the procedures and policies of Mersey Care as outlined in its privacy notices.

In accordance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We will only use your information for the purposes described at the time of collection (for example, communicating with you as part of your membership sign‑up). We do not share your details with other organisations unless required by law or you have given us permission.

Training data

We capture anonymous training data, transmitted to the learning record store (LRS) through xAPI protocols. This enables us to analyse:

• Participation rates
• Pre‑ and post‑training confidence levels
• High‑level, anonymised demographic information
• Optional qualitative feedback

We use this data to:

• Assess the effectiveness of our programmes
• Improve user experience and accessibility
• Demonstrate impact to stakeholders in anonymised form
• Support research and service development in suicide prevention

Membership

When you sign up as a member, we collect basic details such as your name, email address, and (for organisations) information about your organisation. We use this information to:

• Administer your membership and maintain our directory
• Send communications and newsletters (with your consent)
• Share fundraising opportunities (with your consent)
• Understand why people join and improve our services (optional responses only)

You can withdraw your consent for communications or fundraising updates at any time. If you no longer wish to be a member, you may withdraw by emailing contactus@zerosuicidealliance.nhs.uk.

We want our work to be authentic and responsive to the needs of our audiences. To shape our training, communications, and wider initiatives, we invite contributions from people with lived and professional experience. These insights help us design content that is relevant and impactful. Any information shared is collected and used only with your consent.

Data dashboards and map

Our website includes interactive dashboards and maps that present data on suicide, suicide risk factors, and mental health and wellbeing.

• All data used in these dashboards is sourced from official public datasets, such as the Office for National Statistics, NHS Digital, and other government or health bodies.
• These datasets are publicly available, aggregated, and anonymised to ensure that no personally identifiable information is included.
• We do not collect, store, or display any personal or identifiable information through these dashboards. All data is presented only at regional or national levels.
• The dashboards are provided for information and awareness purposes only and do not involve the processing of individual user data.

Safeguards and your rights

All data collected and processed by ZSA is subject to strict information governance controls. Data is stored securely with restricted access, limited to authorised employees. We retain data only as long as necessary for the purposes described.
