Join us throughout May 2025 for National Walking Month by taking part in the ZSA Step Challenge!

Take part as an individual, group, business or organisation… every step counts towards helping raise awareness and funds to support suicide awareness and prevention.

Why step?

The ZSA Step Challenge is a fantastic way to boost both physical and mental wellbeing while raising vital funds to support suicide prevention. Whether you take part as an individual or as team, the ZSA Step Challenge will enable you to:

  • Show your support for suicide prevention
  • Start conversations to support suicide awareness
  • Encourage more people to take our potentially life-saving training

Set a goal, track your progress, and enjoy the journey—one step at a time, you can make a real difference.

How long is the challenge?

The ZSA Step Challenge 2025 runs for the whole of May. It starts on the first day and ends on the last – that’s 31 whole days to make a difference!

The ZSA Step Challenge has something for everyone, accessible to all fitness levels and abilities.  You can choose your own distance or step count and set your own targets! No distance is too short or too long when it comes to supporting a cause.

  • Walk the equivalent of London to Paris throughout May to complete 889,488 steps and 379 miles

Why step for suicide awareness

Sadly, more than 6,000 people die by suicide in the UK every year. We know that by talking about suicide, we can save lives. We need to open up conversations to help challenge the stigma that still exists, so more people feel comfortable and able to ask for help and support when they need it.

Through our work we aim to improve suicide awareness, so more people feel empowered and equipped to talk about suicide.

Alongside our FREE online training courses, our suicide data map and dashboards provide access to information that can support suicide prevention initiatives and understanding and we host regular webinars to share learning.

Take part in the ZSA step challenge and be a part of supporting this work.

How do I calculate my steps?

To record your steps, it may be helpful to use pedometer or suitable app/function on smartphone or watch eligible to track steps.

Strava is a popular app you can use to chart your progress. It also can be connected to the profile you set up on our fundraising platform, Enthuse which allows you to keep sponsors updated on your progress!
