Steve Rotherham aims for Liverpool to be the first city in the UK to be suicide free.
“Suicide has a devastating effect on whole communities. We want to make it socially unacceptable for people to turn a blind eye if someone they know is in distress; to give people the skills and confidence to recognise the signs and ask the questions that could save a life. The online training package the Zero Suicide Alliance has developed is fantastic. It only takes 20 minutes but it teaches you how to spot the signs, and gives you the language and confidence to talk openly and ask the awkward questions that need to be asked if you think someone may be thinking of taking their life. It’s a fantastic gift. Zero Suicide is an aspiration, and yes it will be challenging. But if even one life is saved as result it will have been worthwhile.”
