Delivering virtual training on behalf of Thrive LDN
Across London, there is a growing commitment to supporting one another through difficult moments, and Thrive LDN is helping make those vital conversations easier to have. In partnership with the Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA), Thrive LDN has launched a year‑long programme of free virtual suicide awareness training, giving people across the capital practical tools, compassionate language, and the confidence to look out for one another. Funded by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, the sessions are open to everyone across Greater London and beyond.
Strong early engagement
The programme began in January 2026, and the first two sessions — held in January and March — reached nearly 500 participants. Everyone who attended received a digital booklet summarising key learning, along with a certificate of attendance.
Positive impact and participant feedback
Feedback from the January session highlights just how valuable Londoners found the training. Of the 450 people who attended, 400 shared their views — and more than 98% said they would recommend the session to a friend or colleague.
Participants particularly valued:
- Clear guidance on navigating difficult conversations
- Practical examples of phrases to use and those to avoid
- Support in moving away from outdated or stigmatising language
- The clarity of the presentation
- The usefulness of the accompanying digital booklet
Participant testimonials
- “This training was invaluable from start to finish.”
- “Stephen Messenger came across as both compassionate and very informative on this difficult topic. It has given me more confidence.”
- “It felt practical, which not all trainings do. The scenarios were useful too.”
- “The whole training was amazing. Very clear slides.”
Thrive LDN’s Communications Lead, James Ludley, who supported the January session, said:
“The overwhelming response to our Great Mental Health Day session shows a real appetite among Londoners to look out for one another. We are pleased to keep working with the Zero Suicide Alliance to offer these additional dates to meet that demand and to ensure that more people feel equipped to have these vital conversations in their own community spaces.”
Upcoming training dates
Further sessions are planned for:
- Tuesday 12 May, 1pm–2.30pm (during Mental Health Awareness Week)
- Monday 15 June, 10am–11.30am
- Thursday 9 July, 10am–11.30am
- Friday 9 October, 1pm–2.30pm (ahead of World Mental Health Day)
Each session lasts 90 minutes and is delivered live via Zoom.
If you live or work in London and want to feel more confident supporting someone who may be struggling, these sessions offer a practical, compassionate starting point. Each one is free to join and open to all.
